The Three Rhymesmen

The Three Rhymesmen

This painting was a long journey for me. A journey of working on my portrait skills, fleshtones, caucasian and african american, and technique. I'm not typically a portrait painter but over time it's something I've been working on. Acrylics paints are just challenging in general you would think after about 20 years of using acrlyics I'd have it down by now, NOPE! :)

I think art is general is a constant learning process, always evolving, always new things to experiment with. I hope you all enjoy this piece and feel free to comment and let me know your thoughts.

Motivation

The Three Rhymesmen

The WIP. Work In Progress. I've been working this piece for what seems to be like months, and...it has been. It has had it's challenges from struggling with technique to concept, to me just working my normal 9 to 5 as a Computer Grahpics/Animator guy and finding the time to get behind the brush. Which leads me to motivation, mine seems to come in spurts of inspiration.

I look forward to posting my latest creation The Three Rhymesmen. First finishing it though of course, I would say its about 85% with about 10 to 20 more hours of work.

Motivation. My motivation for this piece originally was my love for Sebastian Krugers work. Second motivation, I have a plan to do a series of paintings, and in order to do that series I needed to hone my skills a bit to figure out my process/approach. Lastly, I'm am originally from the Motor City and grew up and still am a big fan of hip hop music...hence Dr. Dre, Snoop and Eminem.

hope you enjoy the piece..coming soon!!

Acrylics Rant

Acrylics

I've been using Acrylics for years and years and you can get many differnt looks with them.
I've put them through the Airbrush, my first love in the artworld and still a passion of mine today, although I put down the "guns" over the past few years to focus on brush techniques.

For some reason I still feel like I have a world to learn with this medium. There are results out there that are truely amazing and I have no idea how to achieve those results. From using medium, glazes, Flows and Retarders, wet in wet...to dry techniques, I still feel to fall short of the knowledge I seek on these techniques.

I push and move forward to challenge myself within this realm of Acrylics. I will continue to persue this technical mystery...possibly even pay the high price to go and learn from the Modern master of acrylics himself, Sebastian Kruger. If you've read this far, google the man...definately worth the hours and hours I've stared at his work online as well as purchasing his latest publication, Faces (autographed...bonus!).

I guess the rants over...no summary just making a mental note to keep working at it!
